The intro part, which reappears in various forms throughout the song, is basically an
eight-count C C F, with three counts on each of the C's and two counts on the F... if
that makes any sense at all. It's easier to understand if you have the song playing
along with you the first few times.

[Intro]
C C F C C F C C F C C F

[Verse 1]
C C F C
Somewhere high in the desert near a curtain of blue
Am G
St. Anne's skirts are billowing
       C C F C
But down here in the city of the lime lights
       Am G
The fans of Santa Ana are withering
               C C F C
And you can't deny that living is easy
           Am G
If you never look behind the scenery
      C F C
It's showtime for dry climes
        Am G C (C C F C)
And bedlam is dreaming of rain

[Chorus]
Am G Am G F C (C G Am)
When the hills of Los Angeles are burning
Am G F C (C G Am)
Palm trees are candles in the murder wind
               Am B
So many lives are on the breeze
               E Am
Even the stars are ill at ease
Am G C (C C F C C F C C F C C F)
And Los Angeles is burning

[Verse 2]
C C F C
This is not a test
           Am G
Of the emergency broadcast system
            C C F C
Where Malibu fires and radio towers
Am G
Conspire to dance again
           C C F C
And I cannot believe the media Mecca
                      Am G
They're only trying to peddle reality
              C C F C
Catch it on prime time, story at nine
       Am G C (C C F C)
The whole world is going insane

[Chorus]
Am G Am G F C (C G Am)
When the hills of Los Angeles are burning
Am G F C (C G Am)
Palm trees are candles in the murder wind
               Am B
So many lives are on the breeze
               E Am
Even the stars are ill at ease
Am G C (C C F C C F C C F C C F)
And Los Angeles is burning

[Bridge]
                 F
A placard reads
                C
"The End of Days"
        F G Am
Jacaranda boughs are bending in the haze
             F G
More a question than a curse
                   C G Am
How could Hell be any worse?
                         F
The flames are stunning
                       G
The camera's running

So take warning

[Solo]
C C F C F C G G
C C F C F C G G
C C F C F C G G
C C F C C F C C F C

[Chorus]
Am G Am G F C (C G Am)
When the hills of Los Angeles are burning
Am G F C (C G Am)
Palm trees are candles in the murder wind
               Am B
So many lives are on the breeze
               E Am
Even the stars are ill at ease
Am G C (C C F C C F C C F C C F)
And Los Angeles is burning
