Started a Band – Bobby Pinson

(G-C-G-C-G)I turned sixteen got a brand new six-string
Haggard and Hank, Sting and Springsteen,
(C)Peelin' the paint every chance I got(G-C-G-C-G).
(G)Daddy said "You're pretty good, but it's tough out there,
Now “Stairway To Heaven” won't get ya anywhere,
Otta (C)cut your hair, and get a (D)real job."

So I started a (G)band(C), and we got out of (G)dodge(C),
In a Dodge (e)van with no exhaust(D),
Got high off the (G)fumes(C), but we played our (G)tunes(C),
Ain't (Em)no one gonna say I (D)can't,
Yeah, I started a (G)band(C), stared a (G)band(C).

Started a (G)band and I met a girl,
Sang my songs and rocked her world,
(C)Goin' strong but out of the blue one (D)day,
She said (G)"I can't love a music man",
So I dropped my dream and sold my van,
(C)But I'll be damned if she didn't leave me (D)anyway.

 So I stared a (G)band(C), with a couple new (G)guys(C),
We (Em)played those same ol' (D)dives.
Yeah, we never sold (G)gold, (NC)okay, we never (G)sold(C),
Ain't (Em)no one gonna say I (D)can't,
Yeah, I started a (G)band (C)Yeah, Yeah (D)Yeah,
I started a (G)band (C)Yeah, Yeah, (D)Yeah

But the (G)lead picker always played too loud,
And him and the drummer had a fallin' out,
(C)Bass man stayed out of it and just got (D)drunk,
I was (G)Nashville bound, my dreams were bigger,
I knocked 'em out they just couldn't pull the trigger,
And that's (C)Nashville speak for I (D)stunk(bass walkdown), as a solo (C)man(D).

So I started a (G)band(C), we play what we (G)like(C),
On a (e)stage that's eight feet (D)wide,
But I got my (G)pride(C), and I got my (G)van(C),
(Em)I kept who I (D)am, I started a (G)band(C),
Started a (G)band(C), (Em)can't get this guitar out my (D)hand,
Yeah I started a (G)band(C)
