Goodbye England Covered In Snow Chords

(ver. 1)
Laura Marling
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
GOODBYE ENGLAND (COVERED IN SNOW) - Laura Marling
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuning: EAC#EBE
CAPO 4

IMPORTANT: This is my tab for the version Laura recently played on Jools Holland
(NOT the studio version!). It is just her and her guitar, very beautiful. Check it

It's a great version for solo acoustic playing, as it is much nicer than just strumming chords.

I'm absolutely positive on the tuning - it took me ages to figure it out, but this is right.
Everything is fingerpicked up until the bridge (where I have marked Riff 1, Riff 2
etc.) The pattern is pretty easy to work out, use your ears!! :P

Anyway, enjoy...

Chords (the names are complex, but the fingering is easy):
A |5430xx|
F#m7 |2430xx|
E7 |0210xx| (she occasionally hammers from 1 to 3 on the D string)
F#m7* |2400xx|
A5/G |3400xx| (remember these chords are only picked, so it is much less difficult
E |0230xx| to finger than it looks!)
F#m11 |201000|
A* |540000|
Asus4 |550000|

INTRO (picking):

A F#m7 E7 A

VERSE (picking):
              A
You were so smart then
                   F#m7
in your jacket and coat.
                E7 A
My softest red scarf was warming your throat.

VERSE:
Winter was on us,
at the end of my nose,
but I never love England more than when covered in snow.

CHORUS:
        F#m7* A5/G E E7
And a friend of mine says it's good to hear you believe in love even if set in fear
       F#m7* A5/G E7
well I'll hold you there brother and set you straight, I only believe that love is
                       A
 frail and willing to break.

VERSE:
I will come back here,
bring me back when I'm old.
I want to lay here forever in the cold.
I might be cold but I'm just skin and bones
and I never love England more than when covered in snow.

BRIDGE (see below):

[RIFF 1] [RIFF 2]

[RIFF 1]
I wrote my name in your book,
[RIFF 2]
only god knows why,
[RIFF 2]
and I bet you that he cracked a smile,
[RIFF 1]
and I'm clearing all the cr*p out of my room,
[RIFF 2]
trying desperately to figure out what it is that makes me blue,
[RIFF 1]
and I wrote an epic letter to you.
[RIFF 2]
but it's 22 pages front and back and it's too good to be used
[RIFF 1]
and I tried to be a girl who likes to be used
[RIFF 2]
I'm too good for that, there's a mind under this hat,
[RIFF 1]
and I called my ma' and told her i've got to move.

[RIFF 3]
I'm out, ma'
it's too hard
[RIFF 3]
I'm on my own
it's too hard

[RIFF 3]
Feel like running
[RIFF 3]
Feel like running,
F#m11
run it off.

[RIFF 3]
And we will keep you
[RIFF 3]
we will keep you

F#m11
little one,
A*
safe from harm,
        F#m11
like an extra arm,
                  A* Asus4 A* Asus4 A*
you are a part of us.

VERSE (as before):
You were so smart then
in your jacket and coat
and my softest red scarf was warming your throat.

Winter will leave us,
left the end of my nose,
so goodbye old England 'till next years snow

fine

I'm pretty sure this is almost 100% correct. I know it's a bit compicated, but
bear with it because it is really worth it for such a beautiful song!

Peace.
