Louises Song Chords

(ver. 1)
Stan Rogers
Louise's Song - Stan Rogers

Intro:
E A B
Verse:
  E
I would have been here sooner,
     B
Your note came yesterday,
     A
But, yesterday was crazy;
          B
There was much to square away.
       E
Then I tried to come this morning,
        B
But the old car wouldn't run
        A
And the buses run so slowly,
          B
There was nothing to be done.

    E
But you, you don't need my troubles,
    B
I'm here now, anyway,
            A
And there's nothing left behind me
   B
To say I cannot stay.
       E
When I told you that I love you,
         B
I said' "Call me anytime",
      A
And especially when you need someone
     B
When things get out of line"

Chorus:
    E
And oh, there's a burning in your eyes
                                        A
And the hand you put in mine won't stop trembling.
    A
Oh, tell me what you're going through,
                              E
'Cause all I want to do is be protecting.
E
No! All those shadows on your face,
                                          A
They look so out of place, they should be sunlight.
  E
I want to take you when the smile returns
    G#m
And keep you from the night
    A B E
And wake up to see me in your eyes.

Verse:
  E
I don't know how we happened,
           B
When we're kept so far apart.
      A
There sure are lots worse prisons
         B
Than the kind with iron bars;
       E
And it almost makes me crazy
    B
To see you hurt inside,
            A
When you're beautiful and really need
   B
To let things open wide.

Chorus:
    E
And oh, there's a burning in your eyes
                                        A
And the hand you put in mine won't stop trembling.
    A
Oh, tell me what you're going through,
                              E
'Cause all I want to do is be protecting.
E
No! All those shadows on your face,
                                          A
They look so out of place, they should be sunlight.
  E
I want to take you when the smile returns
    G#m
And keep you from the night
    A B E
And wake up to see me in your eyes
  E
I want to take you when the smile returns
    G#m
And keep you from the night
    A B E
And wake up to see me in your eyes.

I love this song so much and couldn't find it anywhere so I did it. I'm pretty sure there are some minor
chords in the chorus but I'm not too sure. E-mail me with any improvements. Thanks.

Notes about the song:
This song was written and recorded in 1976 for one of the CBC Halifax Anecdote series produced by Bill Howell.
This particular show Midnight at Oyster Pond dealt with freedom in many frames of reference. Louise's Song is a
retrospective on an improbable meeting with a lady who wasn't free to develop a relationship at that point in time.
There's nothing like unrequited ttraction to fuel the prosaic in many a songwriter! Louise, wherever
you are, this one's for you!
